our story

Bringing the World to Zimbabwe

Tiritose is a non-profit organisation promoting responsible/ethical travel by facilitating volunteering, internships and educational tour opportunities in Zimbabwe. The organisation was established with the purpose of developing Zimbabwe through the exchange of ideas, information, and skills. Our aim is to bring people together of all ages from different backgrounds with different perspectives to start a dialogue. Tiritose means ‘we are together’ in the local Zimbabwean language, Shona. Our tagline ‘we build together’, and our logo represents collaboration and embodies the spirit of ‘mushandirapamwe’ (teamwork) as well as strength of character exhibited by the honey bee – our mascot.

We build networks for collaboration, and generate opportunities that enable Zimbabweans to fulfil their full potential, whilst affording international partner institutions and individuals a chance to learn from Zimbabwean communities. The goal is to take Zimbabwe out of the isolation from access to resources, good healthcare, education conservation management techniques and overall communication with the world. Since the launch of Tiritose in 2015, we have become the first Zimbabwean turnkey provider of cross-cultural exchanges through volunteering, and internship placements at matched organisations. Have a look at some of the reviews from past interns and volunteers, and check out when Tiritose was interviewed by the online magazine Zimbo Jam – An Intro to Tiritose.

We envision a future where Zimbabweans are empowered to take control of improving their quality of life. Our mission is to foster relationships between Zimbabwean society, educational institutions, and international communities through cultural, educational and skills initiatives.

You don’t need eyes to see. You need a vision– Faithless

Our Commitment to Zimbabwe

We are committed to educational development and skills exchange partnerships. We are committed to the reconstruction of our country through community building projects such as drug and alcohol rehabilitation programmes or reintegration of the homeless, enabling the disabled, enhancing the future generation’s knowledge about adequate wildlife and environmental conservation, and supporting the terminally ill in local hospices. Tiritose is committed to being an ambassador of Zimbabwe to the world and enlightening individuals and partner institutions about our beautiful nation.

Our Promise to Clients

We promise to challenge and stimulate your mind so that you leave Zimbabwe as a new person. We guarantee opportunities for you to learn, and celebrate life with the most spirited, passionate, and tenacious people who have not been afforded opportunities to showcase their talents to the world. Tiritose offers you an opportunity to see Zimbabwe through your own eyes and will assist with the planning of excursions to experience not only the social development side of Zimbabwe but also the amazing natural wonders we have on offer.

Your Pledge to Zimbabwe

You promise to bring an open mind and enthusiastic spirit to a different country. You promise to channel your energy, life and professional experiences to positively make a difference. You will push your boundaries and see the world in a new light. Above all else, we hope that you bring your commitment and desire to work with Zimbabwe to achieve its full potential through the spirit of Mushandirapamwe (cooperation), a cornerstone of Tiritose’s Mission.

Why Work with Tiritose
The country faced political, economic and social challenges in its recent history, characterised by hyperinflation in 2009. These challenges led to massive brain drain across all sectors, with approximately 20,000 teachers reported to have left the country. Hospitals and clinics are understaffed, and correctional facilities and other public institutions lack adequate funding for basic necessities. 1,4 million people are living with HIV, whilst 960,000 children are orphaned due to AIDS. Poaching, population growth and lack of adequate electricity power supply has led to deforestation and tremendously reduced the amount of wildlife.

Zimbabwe has been slowly recovering from the economic downturn and with the introduction of the multi-currency system in 2009 the economy started to stabilise. The Government of National Unity formed in 2008/9 calmed the political landscape, and November 2017 brought about a change in government, with the resignation of Robert G. Mugabe – ushering in the new Emmerson D. Mnangagwa dispensation. Similar to any country that undergoes political and socio-economic challenges; ordinary citizens are the most affected. The population however, remains a proud, resilient one and given a platform to work, can take ownership of their destiny. By working with Tiritose, you can make a difference in people’s lives, improve a struggling organisation with your skills, and connect Zimbabwe to the world. This is an opportunity to educate communities to take care of their environment and natural resources, whilst making an even bigger impact on your own life. So come, and Let us build together…

Travel in a sustainable way – taking care of both the environment as well as the communities that we visit!

We take great measures to ensure vulnerable members of the communities that visitors go to are not exploited. Above all else, Tiritose does not sell poverty: we encourage collaboration between visitors and local communities, and all our programmes take safety of both the locals as well as the visitors as the number one priority!
